Agile, fast, and built for connection—the city’s new patrollers are already making a difference.

The police department in Fargo, North Dakota, is deploying Trikke Positrons to support its community engagement efforts this summer—and the public is taking notice. So are local media outlets, with the story featured in the video above by Valley News Live and in this InForum article.

Fargo PD began using a fleet of four Positron 72v XLs during the Fargo Marathon, and the vehicles are now part of regular downtown patrols—including high-traffic zones and city events like the Fargo Street Fair.

Why Trikke? According to the department, it came down to agility, speed, and approachability. Officers tested various mobility options, including Segways, but chose Trikkes for their ability to navigate tight spaces and reach speeds up to 44 mph—a clear advantage over bike patrols in both urban response and visibility.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive.

“People are constantly waving, pointing, saying, ‘Those are so cool,’” said Officer Lacey Bunkelman, who patrols on one of the new Positrons.

The patrols are already sparking more face-to-face conversations between officers and the public. Officer Jonas Duncan noted that being on a Trikke has allowed him to engage with far more residents than he ever did from inside a squad car.

More than just a new ride, Trikke patrols serve as a strategy for visibility and community trust. Officers are easier to approach, more mobile during events, and able to respond quickly in crowded or hard-to-reach areas.

Coverage from Valley News Live and the InForum has helped amplify the story, showing how local law enforcement is embracing innovation not just for efficiency—but for connection.

With more summer events on the horizon, expect to see Fargo PD riding tall on three wheels.
