INDYCAR deploys Positrons to maintain security, speed, and mobility throughout the racing season
May is here—and with it, the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500. As fans pour into the Speedway and events ramp up across the month, INDYCAR is turning to a new tool to help manage crowds, coordinate safety, and keep operations running smoothly: Trikke Professional Mobility vehicles.
First introduced during last year’s INDYCAR season, the three-wheel, electric Positrons have since become a fixture in the organization’s safety and security operations. “They’re super maneuverable,” says Brian Mahome, Director of Safety and Security for INDYCAR and IMS. “One of the advantages I was surprised about is the height advantage, and when you’re on this, it gives you a clear view over the crowd which helps with the mobility of it.”

At events like the Indy 500, where golf carts and gas-powered vehicles struggle to move through crowds and tight pedestrian zones, Trikkes offer a clean, compact solution. With long battery life, a tight turning radius, and the ability to power through gravel, hills, and tight spaces, they’re built for the high demands of track security.
“They have enough speed to get you out of trouble,” Mahome notes. “You’re not going to race them, but they’re pretty fast.”
From pit lane to Pagoda Plaza, Trikke is helping INDYCAR maintain order during one of the largest racing spectacles on earth.
